Research suggests that it is time for police to shift from person‐based policing to hot spots policing. Yet, during most hotspots policing interventions the police rarely get out of their cars. I. Hot spots policing is popular, yet little is known about officer receptivity to the tactic and its impact on internal procedural justice, organizational commitment, and self-legitimacy. In this book, Anthony A. Braga and David L. Weisburd make the case that hot spots policing is an effective approach to crime prevention that should be engaged by police departments in the United States and other countries. A recent meta-analysis on hot spots policing provides persuasive empirical evidence of its crime reduction benefits (Braga, 2005).
